Native to South America the Silver Arowana are found in white and black water floodplain's and freshwaters rivers of the Amazon Basin. Most are found in swamp and flooded areas in the shallower water.
Their natural environment is from about 75 to 82 degrees F (24-28 C) and in the wild, Silver Arowana may reach upwards of 4 feet /120 cm in length, and a little over ten pounds in weight, so although we normally stock 6 - 12" specimens you will need a large tank to keep them long term. Natural jumpers, the tank needs to be securely covered or you may find your prize specimen on the floor.
They require good water conditions with Ammonia and Nitrites close to zero. Silver Arowana create a lot of waste, so the filtration system needs to be strong and efficient. Changing at least 25% of the water per week is advisable. Some even recommend as much as 50-75%. Ideal pH is 6.5 - 7 although in the shop we keep ours at 7 - 7.4
All our Arowana are feeding consistently before they are offered for sale and we are happy to discuss food and feeding routines before you buy.
