What most probably started out as a straightforward albino strain has stabilised into one of the most striking colour variants of any fish species.
Today the only true albino trait remaining is the bright red eyes, the once pale colourless body is now a rich Golden Yellow which almost sparkles.
Size is up to 15 cm (male), 12 cm (female), recommended temperature 23-27 degrees Celsius, lifespan up to 12 years. They are hardy animals and tolerant to a wide range of water conditions, breeding easily in captivityand compatible with most other freshwater community fish
Breeding takes place in hollows, caves, or even inside the filter system, with the male looking after the eggs and emerging fry. The female takes no part in the guard duties.
