From Eastern Columbia this hardy Dwarf Cichlid is among'st the most colourful of the family, although some of the wild caught specimens are less so than the captive breed stock normally imported.
A relatively recent introduction to the hobby the species was formally described Apistogramma sp. rostrichin before being identified in 1979 by Dr. Sven Kullander.
Provide with hiding places/caves made from driftwood and unglazed ceramic pots. In order to give them the best quality of life, and enjoy the fullest display of natural behaviours a well-planted tank should be provided
Apistogramma hongsloi are generally easy to care for provided their are no water quality issues and regular water changes are a must. Like all Apistos, they are sensitive to toxins, medications and low oxygen levels.
Pairs are usually good parents and typical Apistogramma breeding techniques are generally successful, although males may become aggressive while protecting their eggs and fry.
